Alpine driver
Pierre Gasly recently spoke about his hopes for 2024 after the last race of this season, the
2023 Abu Dhabi Grand Prix.
2023 was the first season for Pierre Gasly in Alpine, and he can call it at least half-successful. On the one hand, Alpine did not win any race and finished sixth in the Constructors' Championship.
On the other hand, Pierre Gasly beat the only driver to whom he can be compared in terms of pace - his teammate
Esteban Ocon- by
four points in the Drivers' Championship.
Performances of Alpine cars have been oscillating based on circumstances and different circuits, but in general, they lacked a lot of place on the top five teams.
The French team found itself in kind of a no man's land. The Constructors' Championship results show Alpine lacked 160 points behind
Aston Martin in fifth place and 92 points ahead of
Williams in seventh place.
On the other hand, the team saw improving performances towards the end of the season during races like
Sao Paulo Grand Prix and
Las Vegas Grand Prix.
Pierre Gasly already won a Grand Prix in his career with
AlphaTauri during the memorable 2020
Italian Grand Prix, but he would like to start winning again. He told the
F1 Nation Podcast:
"I want to say 2024 because this is the clear target, and that’s the goal I’m working towards. And I just want it to happen very, very, very badly next season… I really hope we can hear the French anthem on the podium in Formula 1 next season in 2024."
Even though Alpine struggled greatly throughout this season, the French driver managed to squeeze the maximum out of his car and pull off two podiums during a sprint race in
Belgium and during the
Netherlands Grand Prix.
While it seems like Alpine is a long way off Red Bull's pace at the moment, many F1 fans would surely like to see Gasly back on the top step of the podium.
