McLaren team principal Andrea Stella hailed his driver, Oscar Piastri, for having a desirable trait that he doesn't have.
Oscar Piastri just recorded one of the best rookie seasons we have seen from any driver in a long time. The Australian driver was marked as the best rookie since Max Verstappen and almost broke Lewis Hamilton's record.
His team principal, Andrea Stella, did not spare superlatives when describing the 22-year-old's season, saying it was truly exceptional and beyond McLaren's expectations.
Stella recently tried to describe what it is that makes Piastri so special already in his rookie season. As quoted by motorsport.com, he said:
"Maybe one of the key enablers why he can grow so rapidly, is just the man beyond the driver. He's so calm, he's so good at keeping himself in a status in which he can use the best of his talent."
Not once have we seen or heard Piastri angry throughout the whole 2023 season. The young Australian might currently be one of the calmest and most rational drivers on the grid.
"I don't have that quality. I have to think about my psychology to actively keep myself in the most productive state. For Oscar, this seems to come quite a come quite naturally or maybe he worked throughout his young career on that, I don't know, but certainly, it is remarkable."
Many drivers' can quite easily get annoyed because of various circumstances, which makes it easy to lose focus, but according to the McLaren team principal, that is not the case for the Australian rookie.
"And even when I've seen great drivers, currently or in the past, all of them sort of sometimes underperform because they don't stay in the status in which they give their best. I think for Oscar, this is quite natural."
