Having racing in his blood, Carlos Sainz Jr. decided to go a bit different way from his father. After attending his first race in Barcelona at 10 years old, Carlos decided he wanted to be an F1 world champion "like Fernando Alonso".
Starting his career in karting, Carlos Sainz won the title in Asia-Pacific KF3 as well as the Junior Monaco Kart Cup. He also finished in the runner-up position in the Spanish Championship and European KF3 Championship.
Beginning his single-seater career in Formula BMW, Carlos Sainz displayed great racing skills and racing IQ, he achieved a few podiums and won the last two races of the Formula BMW Europe series 2010 at Monza Circuit. These achievements laid a great foundation for his later progress through other Junior series.
Sainz would then progress through Formula 3 and GP3, winning multiple races and scoring multiple podiums. In 2014, Carlos Sainz competed in Formula Renault 3.5. Winning seven races along the way and the championship overall, Sainz secured himself a ticket to Formula 1 next year.
In 2015, the Spanish driver joined the Scuderia Toro Rosso Formula 1 team. Over the time spent at Toro Rosso, Carlos Sainz scored multiple points, however, he never got himself on the podium. Number 55 driver changed teams in 2017, driving for Renault this time, but he would not get his first podium until his move to McLaren.
Sainz went to McLaren for seasons 2019 and 2020, where he finally scored his first F1 podium, finishing 3rd in the 2019 Brazilian Grand Prix. He also scored second place finish in the 2020 Italian Grand Prix. Carlos Sainz describes a few of his races at McLaren as some of the best in his career.
In 2021, Carlos Sainz moved to the Scuderia Ferrari, of which he is a part until today. During his time in Ferrari, Carlos Sainz accomplished his first Formula 1 race victory at Silverstone Circuit in 2022. He managed to win one more race since then - the 2023 Singapore Grand Prix.
