Only four F1 teams managed to improve from year to year going into the 2023 season, as Constructors' Championship standings show.

Last week's race, the 2023 Abu Dhabi Grand Prix at Yas Marina Circuit, concluded the 2023 season, and we are now able to see which teams made the biggest steps forward in the Championship.

The table below is a confirmation of the insane progress that Aston Martin and McLaren teams have been able to make since the 2022 winter break.

Well, only Aston Martin made the big gains ahead of the 2023 season. McLaren started this season with an under-developed car competing at the back of the grid.

The big magic for the Papaya team happened around the Austrian or British Grand Prix when they introduced upgrades that brought surprising gains in performance and allowed their drivers to compete for podiums on a regular basis.

Lando Norris recently described McLaren's progress as "one of the biggest turnarounds in probably the last ten years."

The other two teams that improved on 2022 results are Red Bull and Williams. Williams went from the last to seventh place in the Constructors' Championship and is looking to move even higher in upcoming seasons.

What nobody expected was the progress that the team from Milton Keynes made ahead of the 2023 season. Red Bull basically stopped bringing upgrades in the middle of the season and still dominated the rest of it.

Mercedes and Ferrari exchanged their positions (second and third) in the Constructors' Championship, but both lost out on the points that the top three teams in this chart snatched away from them.

Alpine was fourth in 2022 and is now sixth because it could not bring as effective upgrades as other teams. AlphaTauri, Haas, and Alfa Romeo lost the least points, but the difference is more significant in their case than it might seem because none of them amassed more than 30 points this season.

What's more, Haas and Alfa Romeo lost more points from 2022 to 2023 than they were able to accumulate altogether in 2023.
