Both Ferrari drivers, Charles Leclerc and Carlos Sainz, are negotiating their new contracts after the 2023 F1 season.
With the 2023 season coming to an end, Ferrari could get into negotiations with their drivers, which, as Sainz previously suggested, should not be problematic. Both drivers want to stay with the team, but both on different terms.
While Leclerc is the future of the Italian team, and should sign a long-term contract, the Spanish driver wants to keep his door open for a possible move to McLaren, Red Bull, or Audi.
Now, it seems that some of the negotiations progressed, as Gazzetta reports. According to the Italian publication, Leclerc has come to an agreement with the team to prolong the contract by five years until 2029.
"The Monegasque driver, whose contract will expire at the end of 2024, has in fact reached a long-term agreement to stay another five seasons with the Maranello team. A move similar to the one that took place in 2019, at the beginning of his adventure with the red team, when the then team principal Mattia Binotto secured him with another five-year contract."— Gazzetta reports
However, the team is yet to confirm the news. On the other hand, when it comes to Sainz, it seems that the negotiations are still pending as the Spanish driver wants a longer contract than the team wants to offer him.
According to reports, Sainz would like to extend his contract by two seasons to keep more options open, but the team from Maranello is offering only a one-year extension.
For now, nothing was officially confirmed by Ferrari, as the team will probably wait to sign both drivers and subsequently announce it to their fans. One thing is clear, and that's that both Leclerc and Sainz will race for Ferrari in 2024.
