The 2024 Chinese Grand Prix is the fifth race of the 2024 Formula 1 World Championships, held on April 19 - 21, 2024, in Jiading, Shanghai, China.
The Chinese Grand Prix is one of the more established races in the Formula 1 calendar. However, even though the race was firmly part of the calendar from 2004 until 2019, there were no F1 races held in China from 2020 until 2023 because of the COVID-19 pandemic.
The history of the Chinese Grand Prix dates back to 1990 when the Chinese government showed interest in hosting a Formula 1 race. Despite having a scheduled race at the Zhuhai International Circuit in 1999, the race was canceled as the circuit didn't meet the FIA standards.
Therefore, the Shanghai International Circuit was built, which signed a seven-year contract, meaning that the Chinese Grand Prix officially got a spot in the Formula 1 calendar from 2004 until 2011.
The contract would then be extended until 2017 and later until 2020, with a four-year break before the Chinese Grand Prix returned to the F1 calendar once again, hosting the race on the same Shanghai International Circuit in 2024. The track's length is 5.451 kilometers (3.387 miles), and it has 16 corners, with a total capacity of 200,000 spectators.
Over the years, the best of the best battle for glory at the Chinese Grand Prix, with the list of champions including names such as Michael Schumacher,
