Scuderia Alpha Tauri, or simply "AlphaTauri," is one of the two teams (the second one being the Red Bull Racing) owned by the company - Red Bull GmbH competing in Formula One. The team competes under the Italian flag and is based in Faenza, Italy.
The origins of the AlphaTauri team go back to 2006 when Dietrich Mateschitz and Gerhard Berger bought out the team formerly known as Minardi. The team was rebranded to Scuredia Torro Rosso, and Red Bull GmbH took full ownership of the team in 2008.
The purpose of owning 2 teams in F1 was to have one team - Scuderia Toro Rosso serve as a junior team for Red Bull Racing. The aim of the team was to develop the skills of young promising drivers.
The goal can be considered accomplished as the team brought up successful drivers like Sebastian Vettel and Max Verstappen, both of whom went on to join Red Bull Racing and win multiple consecutive Drivers' and Constructors' championships with the senior team.
In 2020, the team was rebranded to AlphaTauri to promote Red Bull’s AlphaTauri fashion brand. According to Helmut Marko (advisor to the Red Bull Formula 1 team) and Franz Tost (Scuderia AlphaTauri team principal), the team no longer serves as a junior team but is rather a sister team to Red Bull Racing.
In its first season in Formula 1, Alpha Tauri signed Pierre Gasly alongside Daniil Kvyat and remained in partnership with Honda, which produces engines for the team still in 2023. The team did not have to wait too long for its first win, as it came during its debut season.
During the 2020 Italian Grand Prix, a series of events and a great race by Pierre Gasly led to Alpha Tauri's first Grand Prix victory. The victory was even sweeter as it was accomplished at the "home" Grand Prix to the Scuderia AlphaTauri team.
In September 2023, the AlphaTauri team announced the pair of Yuki Tsunoda and Daniel Ricciardo will be racing for the team in the 2024 season.
