While there are only 20 drivers on the grid, 14 of them will see their contracts expire at the end of season 2024. Here is all you need to know:
Perhaps the hottest and the most discussed seat out of all is the second seat in
Red Bull alongside Max Verstappen. If
Sergio Perez does not improve his performance, he will be in trouble as Red Bull will look around for other options.
There have also been numerous speculations about possible drivers that could replace the Mexican. One of them has been
Daniel Ricciardo, but names like
Fernando Alonso,
Alex Albon, and
Carlos Sainz have also been flowing around.
Out of the above-mentioned names, probably the least likely driver to join Red Bull is Alonso, as
Red Bull's team principal specifically said he would not want two alphas in one team.
Very recent rumors also suggest
Charles Leclerc prolonged his contract with Ferrari until the end of 2029 while negotiations with Carlos Sainz are still in process.
Pierre Gasly beat his teammate
Esteban Ocon during his first season at
Alpine in 2023, and it is likely that both drivers will continue with the team.
Teams that rank low in the Constructors' Championship sign with drivers for shorter periods of time, unlike
Ferrari, Mercedes, or Red Bull that find one or two drivers they believe in and want to keep for as long as possible.
Notably,
Nico Hulkenberg has been
connected with a possible move to Audi Sauber (now known as
Alfa Romeo) in 2026. His teammate
Kevin Magnussen brings to
Haas a lot of experience, which the team values, so it would not be surprising to see the Dane continue with the team.
