Aston Martin team principal Mike Krack recently said the second part of the 2023 season should not be called a disappointment for Aston Martin.
Aston Martin's F1 team amassed 280 points in total to rank fifth in the Constructors' Championship at the end of the season, just missing fourth place to McLaren.
Everything could have been different, but Aston Martin failed to bring effective upgrades, which allowed its rivals to catch up and overtake them. On the other hand, the team principal, Mike Krack, said:
"It is not a disappointment because you need to be realistic about where you are, and we started the year in a very good position."
The British team was able to capitalize on a messy start to the season when many teams came with quite underdeveloped cars compared to theirs.
"We were surprised, and I think everybody was at some teams not coming out of the starting blocks as we expected them to, and then by developing, they came back to their more natural position."
Aston Martin perhaps used most of its season's budget at the beginning as the team principal hinted there was not much more to do with the available firepower.
"That is something we cannot influence, with the fire power that we have, so from that point of view, I think it is wrong to say that this part [of the season] is a disappointment."
While Krack acknowledges some mistakes have been made, Aston Martin still made huge progress season to season, improving by 225 points and two Championship positions.
Going from seventh place in the Constructors' Championship to competing for race wins and achieving eight podiums is remarkable, no matter what it cost in the second half of the season. The team principal added:
"It it something we know that we need to work on for the future if we want to become a stronger team, but it is not correct to put this as a disappointment."
