Mike Krack is a Luxembourgish motorsports engineer and the Chief Trackside Officer of the Aston Martin Formula One Team in the 2025 Formula 1 World Championship.
Date of Birth: | 18 March 1972 |
Birthplace: | Luxembourg |
2025 F1 Team: | Aston Martin Formula One Team |
Mike Krack was born on March 18, 1972, in Luxembourg. After finishing his studies, Krack started his engineering journey at BMW. In July 1998, he took the role of test engineer. This initial role set an invaluable foundation for Krack in terms of experience needed for his future ventures.
After almost three years at BMW, Mike Krack left his role to join Sauber in 2001. In the beginning, he started as a Data Analysis Engineer; however, he rose through the ranks relatively quickly, and in 2003, he became the race engineer for the talented Brazilian driver Felipe Massa.
The role of a race engineer requires knowledge of mechanical engineering, data analysis, as well as communication with the driver and broader team. Each driver has his dedicated racing engineer, and it is the person that spectators can usually hear on the other side of the team radio during the race.
Mike Krack eventually became a Chief Engineer after the team transitioned to the BMW Sauber. Here he worked with future 4-time World Champion, back then young Sebastian Vettel until his debut in the 2007 United States Grand Prix.
Mike Krack left the BMW Sauber in 2008 and transitioned through Formula 3 teams Kolles & Heinz Union and Hitech. He then returned to BMW in October 2010 as chief of the DTM (Deutsche Tourenwagen Masters) department but left again two years time to join Porsche at the end of 2012.
Krack’s role in Porsche was as Head of Engineering for the World Endurance Championship team working on the 919 Hybrid, which managed to achieve one victory and four podiums. In 2014, he joined BMW for the third time - this time as a senior performance engineer.
On January 12, 2022, it was announced Mike Krack would take on the role of the Team Principal of the Aston Martin Formula One Team. Since then, Aston Martin made significant progress from the back of the grid in 2021 and 2022 to scoring multiple podium finishes in 2023. However, in 2024, the British team struggled, not scoring a single podium with the best finish of P5 in Saudi Arabia.
Following the unsuccessful season, the British team made changes to its leadership, promoting Andy Cowell to CEO and team principal. Mike Krack stays with the team but in the newly assumed role of Chief Trackside Officer, where he "will continue to focus on getting the most performance out of the car at the racetrack," as quoted by Aston Martin.
