Mike Krack, the team principal of Aston Martin, asserted the team wants to continue working with Fernando Alonso even beyond 2024.
Despite his age (he will turn 43 this year), Fernando Alonso, whose contract expires at the end of this season, is currently one of the most lucrative drivers on the market.
Teams like Mercedes might even be interested in the Spanish Matador, so he now has a big decision to make about his future.
Aston Martin team principal Mike Krack said it's clear to them they want to continue with Alonso, and the ball is now in his court to decide about his future contract.
"It's not a secret that he first of all wants to decide for himself what he wants to do. And I think it's also not a secret that I keep saying that we want to continue working with Fernando."
The 51-year-old team principal is aware that the best way to keep and attract the best drivers is to provide them with the best car, so that is currently Aston's focus.
"And I also said that the most important thing is that we give him a quick car. So that he believes in this project, and that he believes in this team, and everything else we will have to discuss over the weeks to come."
"Now, it is clear that a driver of that calibre is attractive for everybody, but we will try to keep him."
While Krack clearly wants to keep the Spaniard, who has been a valuable asset to the British team since joining after the end of the 2022 season, Alonso isn't even sure whether he wants to continue racing. He said he needs time to decide about his future.
Eddie Jordan said on the recent episode of the Formula for Success Podcast that he saw a sign on Alonso that indicates he might be about to retire. What do you think? Will Alonso keep on racing after this season?
