Three-time F1 Grand Prix, winner Johny Herbert, expressed worries that Red Bull might still be hiding its real pace.
Red Bull Racing cars achieved a one-two finish in both of the first two races of the 2024 season. Max Verstappen, with Sergio Perez, took home the maximum points after the 2024 Bahrain Grand Prix.
They would also achieve the same during the Saudi Arabian Grand Prix, but Charles Leclerc snatched the fastest lap from the Dutchman.
Ferrari is currently Red Bull's closest challenger, as its drivers completed the podium during the first two races. Scuderia lacked 25.110 seconds in the first race and 18.639 seconds in the second race on the leading triple World Champion.
That is already a considerable gap, but Herbert is worried that we've still not seen the best of Red Bull and Verstappen, as they could only have been managing their pace at the front until now. He told RacingNews365:
"My only little chink of worry is that I don't think we've seen the best of Max this season anyway because he doesn't need to show it."
"That's the worry, that he still has something in his back pocket where he can go 'Okay, you think you're closer, there's another couple of tenths.'"
Max Verstappen has won 19 out of 20 last races, and in Australia, he can equal his own record for most consecutive victories set during the most recent season. It is clear that the Red Bull car suits the Dutchman. The former F1 driver added:
"I think that's probably the only thing that's going to be a little bit more of a headache for Charles and Ferrari, and for when Carlos comes back, because he (Verstappen) is so comfortable in the car, and they are in total harmony together."
"I have said this many times over the last couple of years, but it is still a very rare thing to see someone so at ease with his driving in the car, and we still haven't seen the best of Max anyway."
