Lewis Hamilton's former
Mercedes teammate and World Champion
Nico Rosberg asserted he could understand the Briton's decision to leave Mercedes.
Lewis Hamilton leaving Mercedes for Ferrari is a huge announcement that sparked much speculation and discussion about why he would make this move now.
While the seven-time World Champion suggested the
reason is relatively simple and has to do with his childhood dream, not everyone is convinced by it.
Fernando Alonso took a dig at the Mercedes driver in one of his recent interviews after the launch of AMR24 when he said
it wasn't Hamilton's dream a couple of months ago.
Moreover, F1 World Champion Damon Hill suggested the 39-year-old wouldn't be leaving his long-term team suddenly if he believed there was at least a 50% chance he would be competing for the title in the upcoming two seasons.
Could it be that some more reasons convinced Hamilton to make a switch? If the decision had to do with the car's performance, it would mean he either expects Mercedes to be slow or
Ferrari to be really fast.
On the other hand, the reigning World Champion
Max Verstappen said he could understand the seven-time World Champion's move and that without further insight into the situation, we shouldn't make other judgments.
Hamilton's former teammate Nico Rosberg is of a similar opinion. The German former F1 driver asserted there are only two teams in the sport that everyone wants to drive for. According to
sueddeutsche.de, he said:
"It surprised me. But if you look at the big picture: There are two legendary teams that everyone wants to drive for - Ferrari and Mercedes. I can understand that he is fulfilling a personal dream with this."
What do you think about Lewis Hamilton's move? Do you agree with Verstappen and Rosberg? Or is there something about what Hill and Alonso are saying? Maybe we will find out in the future.
