The seven-time World Champion
Lewis Hamilton shared a post on his Instagram with a long description giving more insight into the current situation amid his move to
Ferrari.
By now, everybody knows the news:
Lewis Hamilton is going to Ferrari. The seven-time World Champion decided to activate a clause in his contract that allows him to leave the German team after the end of season 2024.
So far, the only statement in relation to this shocking move that we got from the 39-year-old
was shared by Mercedes in their official press release.
In that press release, Hamilton suggested leaving Silver Arrows had been one of the hardest decisions in his career and thanked his whole team, including
Toto Wolff. In the message posted on his Instagram a few hours ago, he wrote:
"I feel incredibly fortunate, after achieving things with Mercedes that I could only have dreamed of as a kid, that I now have the chance to fulfill another childhood dream. Driving in Ferrari red."
Hamilton had quite a few chances to drive for Ferrari over the years but never really got to the point of signing a contract. Well, until a few days ago. He explained he needed a change:
"But the time is right to make a change and take on a new challenge. I still remember the feeling of taking a leap of faith into the unknown when I first joined Mercedes in 2013."
In 2013, Hamilton made one of the bravest driver moves in F1 when he went from then one of the best teams on the Grid -
Mclaren, to the team that was running around fifth place in the Championship -
Mercedes.
It was a move that didn't make sense to many, but resulted in six more Championship titles for the Briton just a couple of seasons later.
"I know some people didn’t understand it at the time but I was right to make the move then and it’s the feeling I have again now. I’m excited to see what I can bring to this new opportunity and what we can do together."
While he looks forward to fulfilling his childhood dream and driving for the Prancing Horse, the seven-time World Champion asserted his full focus is not on performing for Mercedes.
"However, right now, I’m not thinking about 2025. My focus is on the upcoming season and getting back out on track with Mercedes."
