Red Bull Racing F1 team principal Christian Horner called out Mercedes driver Lewis Hamilton for "selective memory" during one of his most recent podcast appearances.
Red Bull is currently experiencing one of the most dominant seasons in Formula One. The team from Milton Keynes has won the Constructors' Championship already in Japan and the Drivers' Championship in Qatar.
To put this into perspective, Red Bull has collected so many points that the team could stop attending races five race weekends before the end of the season, and it would still win both Championships.
Even though they could stop, they didn't, and Red Bull, with Max Verstappen, keeps winning race after race. There has so far been only one race in the season won by a non-Red Bull driver.
Such dominance makes some of the drivers from other teams upset. Mercedes driver Lewis Hamilton often comments on how fast and unbeatable the Red Bull is.
Red Bull Racing team principal does not like such comments coming from the seven-time World Champion. Christian Horner said on Dax Shepard's Eff Won podcast:
I feel like he’s got selective memory. So you know, some of the winning that they did in that period was just obscene. We’ve had a good run for a couple of years, but the one guy that shouldn’t be saying that, I would think, is Lewis.
Lewis Hamilton drives for the Mercedes F1 team, which won the Constructors' Championship eight seasons in a row in the years 2014-2021.
In truth, there have been multiple periods of dominance from various teams in F1. Before the Mercedes, it was Red Bull with Sebastian Vettel with four consecutive titles.
Scuderia Ferrari also had such a streak with Michael Schumacher in the years 2000-2004, when the team achieved five consecutive Championship titles.
F1 is trying to combat such periods of dominance with frequent changes in rules, but for now, formula fans can only sit back and appreciate the perfection in execution from the Red Bull team and their drivers.
