Alfa Romeo team representative Alessandro Alunni Bravi reflected on the unsuccessful 2023 Sao Paulo Grand Prix weekend at Interlagos Circuit.
Even though both Alfa Romeo drivers started the Sunday race from the back of the gird, they showed very good pace and were looking to score some points in the middle of the race.
However, hopes for Alfa Romeo fans slowly disappeared as Zhou Guanyu had to retire his car on lap 22, and later, Valtteri Bottas joined him in the garage on lap 39.
The team's representative, Alessandro Alunni Bravi, shared his disappointment with the media. As reported by formula1.com, he told the media.
"We’re really disappointed today, especially because both drivers were delivering very solid races. Valtteri was firmly in P10, with Zhou right behind him, after a good start and with a car that performed much better than in the previous days."
Bottas started from P18 and Zhou from P20. Nevertheless, they climbed up the grid and were in a fight for point positions with teams like Alpine which seemed to have been faster than Ferrari this weekend.
"We were fighting with the Alpines, the AlphaTauris, and a points finish was definitely on the cards. Last year, we suffered quite a few DNFs, and this year we improved significantly."
What was very positive for the team was that both drivers showed great pace, even in the cooler track conditions. This might be a good sign going into the Las Vegas Grand Prix next weekend, which is expected to be cold.
"Our strategy today was the best one to maximize our result, and the drivers worked well together to execute it, but sadly we never had the opportunity to see its results."
Alfa Romeo is currently ninth in the Constructors' Championship in a pretty tight battle with Haas which is currently in tenth place and also failed to score points in Brazil.
"Now there’s no room for regrets: we need to focus on the final two races and maximize everything we can. It’s going to be hard, but we owe it to our team members, our partners, and our fans."
