Mercedes F1 driver Lewis Hamilton said he does not have a 'race-winning car' ahead of the 2023 Las Vegas Grand Prix at Las Vegas Strip Circuit.
Lewis Hamilton went through many ups and downs this season with his Mercedes. One weekend, it seems like Hamilton might catch Max Verstappen (Austin), and then all of a sudden, he gets overtaken by an Alphatauri (Brazil).
After a failed race in Sao Paulo, Mercedes team principal Toto Wolff said the team understands mistakes that set the team back. Speaking on the same topic, Lewis Hamilton told Sky Sports ahead of the 2023 Las Vegas Grand Prix.
"We 100% know what went wrong in Brazil. Ultimately we didn't do a good job, but we took away a lot of learnings from it in terms of where we need to go and develop."
The seven-time World Champion seemed a bit more optimistic when he explained the team learned from the mistake and brought a better approach for the race in Las Vegas.
"Through failure there is always things you can learn from those experiences. Coming to Las Vegas we have a better approach, but we still don't know how the car is going to be here."
On the other hand, the 38-year-old slammed his Mercedes car and hopes of his fans for a win at the same time as he said: "It's still not a championship-winning car, and I don't even think it's a race-winning car still."
Hamilton seems to be doing all he can in order to compete for the title as soon as possible, He mentioned he is involved in multiple group chats with various departments that work on the 2024 car.
"We've had so much work done throughout the year already. I'm on a group team chat with different departments, and I will always be checking in."
On the other hand, the seven-time World Champion admitted that he has to give more time to everybody back at the factory working hard on producing the best possible car. He concluded:
"It's small steps each week, and on top of that, I've got to get my head in the right place. I've got to get fit, prepare for the next season, and spend some time with my family - it's been a killer season."
