Red Bull Racing F1 driver
Max Verstappen shared he did not like the show during the opening ceremony as he was just standing there, looking "like a clown."
After attending the opening ceremony, the three-time World Champion shared his thoughts on the Grand Prix again. As quoted by
RacingNews365, he told the media:
"99% show and 1% sporting event. I don't have a lot of emotions to be honest, I just want to focus on the performance side of things, I don't like all the things that are around, I know they are part of it, but it is not in my interest."
Former F1 driver Pedro De La Rosa said the track looks easy for drivers. That does not motivate Verstappen as he said the track is not very interesting to him.
"[The track] is not very interesting, and I just want to do the best I can - there is no problem - but it's not really my thing."
The Dutchman quite often voices his opinion on Formula One issues without holding back. He recently also criticized Sprint weekends format and the rule changes concerning pit exit for the qualifications in
Mexico City and
Sao Paulo.
"I just voiced my opinion on positive and negative things, and that is just how I am. Some people like the show a bit more, I don't like it at all."
Some drivers like
Daniel Ricciardo and
Lewis Hamilton looked forward to the whole event, but the Dutchman clarified he only likes the racing side of things. Concerning the opening ceremony, he said he felt "like a clown."
"I grew up just looking at the performance side of things, and that is how I see it as well. I like to be in Vegas - but not so much for the racing. For me, you can skip all these kinds of things. It's just standing up there, [and you] look like a clown."
