Red Bull Racing F1 team principal Christian Horner slammed the media for "putting a question mark" over Sergio Perez's future in the team.
Sergio Perez went through a rough couple of weeks recently as many speculations arose questioning whether he deserves a 2024 seat in Red Bull and which drivers could replace him.
It all started because of the weak performance of the Mexican driver. However, Checo stepped his game up in recent races, and it currently looks like he will secure his second place in the Championship during this week's race in Las Vegas.
Before the previous race in Sao Paulo, it was unclear whether Perez would be able to defend the position, and the media questioned Max Verstappen whether he would help his teammate. Christian Horner told Bloomberg:
"I don't think he'll need the help from Max, to be honest. He just needs to finish either ahead or just behind Lewis [Hamilton] in Vegas to secure that second position."
The number 11 driver himself recently told the media he was unlucky in a few races, but it is just a matter of time before he can show what he's got. Horner believes in Perez and said it is only the media that keeps putting question marks over his driver.
"The only people that keep putting the question mark over him are you guys [media]. Checo is going to be our driver next year, and he's had a tough six weeks, but he's started to re-find his form."
The team principal was satisfied with Perez's pace in Sao Paulo and Austin and clarified again the Mexican driver will race for Red Bull in 2024.
"The race that he drove in São Paulo was very strong, his race in Austin was strong, he's finding his form again Let's see what he can do over these next couple of races, but he will be our driver alongside Max [Verstappen] in 2024."
