Red Bull Racing F1 Chief Engineer Paul Monaghan recently talked about the evolution of Red Bull cars going into the 2024 season, saying it would be "foolish" to throw their concept away.
Red Bull Racing is the team that made the most of the change in technical regulations for the season 2022. The team built the best car and did not allow competitors to catch up ever since.
The team from Milton Keynes built the fastest and most versatile car on the grid, allowing Max Verstappen to dominate on every single track of the season (except for Singapore).
As we are nearing the end of season 2023, all the teams are already changing their focus towards the development of the cars for season 2024. Red Bull Chief Engineer Paul Monaghan commented on his team's progress:
"It perhaps wouldn't surprise you if I said it [the 2024 car] will be an evolution of the current car, as it will be a bit foolish to throw this concept away."
Monaghan suggested the 2024 car will be an evolution, not a revolution of the current concept, meaning the team will probably stick with the current concept and just keep upgrading it. On the other hand, he said:
"But equally, we've got to make some progress. We've got to find some lap time. The opposition is on us and if they do a step, then we'd better have a bigger step."
Red Bull team principal recently gave some hope to the team's rivals, saying the team might reach the top of the development curve in the next two seasons, and that's when they could catch up.
If Red Bull wanted to prevent this from happening, the team needs to bring something completely new, but then again, that involves a lot of risk. The Chief Engineer concluded:
"But it [the RB20] carries over a lot of the lessons and benefits of the current car, and then from Bahrain next year, we'll see whether we've done a good enough job."
