Red Bull Racing F1 team principal Christian Horner said he is expecting the grid to get closer in terms of performance for future seasons.
With the 2023 Championship already decided a few races ago, many Formula One fans hope at least one team could catch up and challenge Red Bull for the title next season.
Two races remain until the end of 2023, but the stakes are not as high as in 2021, for example. Back then, the Championship battle lasted until the race's final lap.
But with the Championship in their pockets, the Red Bull team can also focus on the car's development for the next season much earlier than other teams that still fight for Championship positions. Christian Horner told the media, according to RacingNews365:
"There are a lot of World Championships that are won in the wind tunnel with the numbers at this time of year. We've got a great car, we've got a great basis."
However, there is a point at which a car concept can reach the "top of the curve," as Horner calls it, and that is when upgrades stop increasing a car's performance.
The Red Bull team principal seems to be hinting that point might come sometime during the next two seasons, which would allow other teams to close the gap to the dominant Red Bull.
"If we keep evolving it, of course, the returns are going to diminish because you are hitting the top of the curve, and will see [the field] concertina up. It will get closer and it will stretch us more for sure."
On the other hand, Red Bull is still pushing very hard, winning all the races ever since the team secured both Championships in Japan and Qatar. Horner added:
"The team is very, very motivated, and you can see that nobody has let off since we won the championship, and everybody is still on fully on it."
One team that is getting particularly closer and closer to Red Bull seems to be McLaren. McLaren's team principal recently told the media the team managed to improve the tire degradation aspect of their car, which is a huge step forward.
