Red Bull's and Max Verstappen's Dominance in 2023 is truly rare, and only Carlos Sainz in Ferrari managed to interrupt it, but can someone join the Spaniard?
In 2023, Red Bull won an incredible 95% of the races up until the 2023 Sao Paulo Grand Prix, when they crossed the finish line first in 19 of 20 Grands Prix. This is an incredible feat that leaves many of their rivals scratching their heads.
Yet, there was one driver who managed to interrupt the dominance, and it was Carlos Sainz during the 2023 Singapore Grand Prix. The Spanish driver finished first ahead of McLaren's Lando Norris and Mercedes' Lewis Hamilton.
It was a race in which the team from Milton Keynes struggled, and their opponents took advantage of their struggles. But before that, and since that, it hasn't happened, and with two more races to go, is there someone who can join Ferrari?
A very unpredictable 2023 Las Vegas Grand Prix is ahead of us, and anything can happen in "Sin City." Mercedes have been one of the best teams in 2023, and that's clear by the fact that they are second in the World Constructors' Championship.
But in the most recent races, Lewis Hamilton and George Russell have struggled a little bit. Yet, it can be one of the Mercedes drivers who can succeed in 2023 and join Sainz in breaking Red Bull's dominance.
The reason for that is quite simple, Mercedes' strategies in the recent years when they were not contesting the Championships were quite aggressive and not conservative as before, as both of their drivers have only one objective, and that's winning a race.
For the seven-time World Champion, at this stage of his career, a fourth-place finish or another podium probably doesn't excite him as much, and being winless since the 2021 Saudi Arabian Grand Prix, Hamilton wants to win again.
A similar concept applies to Russell, who has already won one race in his career, but he simply wants to prove himself and win again. With the unpredictable Las Vegas Grand Prix, this is the approach that can yield great results, as Mercedes don't seem to care if they finish second or 20th, they simply want to win and a calculated risk can see one of their drivers on the top step in Las Vegas.
Another team that seems to have a similar approach is McLaren. Both their drivers, Lando Norris and Oscar Piastri, are yet to win a race in their F1 career, and after both got multiple podiums in 2023, they want more.
Therefore, it wouldn't be surprising if the British team finished first in one of the remaining two races of the 2023 season. But let's not forget Ferrari. They were the ones who broke the dominance, and despite being quite shaky recently, they are still some of the hottest favourites to do so.
Carlos Sainz has been proving his speed in 2023, and on the other hand, Charles Leclerc has been quite unlucky. The Monegasque driver will certainly want to put all the misery behind him, and pump himself up before the 2024 season with an important race win.
And last but not least, let's not forget the Spanish matador. Early in the season, Fernando Alonso in Aston Martin was one of the biggest surprises, as he managed to collect six podiums in the first eight races.
However, after that, the British team was on a slow decline, but that changed in Brazil. Alonso finished third at the 2023 Sao Paulo Grand Prix, and he has been winless for over a decade now, with his last victory coming at the 2013 Spanish Grand Prix.
Finally with a competitive car, the Spaniard is certainly motivated to add another victory to his name, and what better place to do it than the unpredictable Las Vegas race, which will be held on November 18th, 2023.
