A reputable Italian news agency published alleged details of
Charles Leclerc's new contract with the
Ferrari team.
Charles Leclerc has been with Scuderia Ferrari since the 2019 season. Throughout his time with the Prancing Horse, Leclerc amassed five wins, 30 podiums, and 23 pole positions.
His first teammate, four-time World Champion
Sebastian Vettel, described the Monegasque as the
most talented driver he came across in 15 years of driving in F1.
Over the years, both Italian fans and the team grew to love the 26-year-old, and when the time came for the contract negotiations, it was more or less expected he would remain with Ferrari.
Just a few days ago, the
extension of the contract was officially announced, but the details, such as length and salary were not made public.
According to Italian news agency Corriere della Sera, Leclerc's new contract will bump his salary from the previous 25 million euros ($27,1 million) to as high as 50 million euros ($54.3 million), excluding bonuses.
The heavy raise in salary tells us just how keen the Italian team was on keeping Leclerc a part of their driver lineup from 2025 onwards.
Ferrari had quite a few options, but their
26-year-old driver proved he had the potential, the speed, and the dedication to challenge even
Max Verstappen in
Red Bull for the title (if he got a competitive car from his team).
In terms of how long the extension of the contract is, the Italian team only revealed the fact that it is a multi-year contract. However, Italian media suggests Leclerc signed a deal that could potentially secure him a seat with Ferrari until the end of the 2029 season.
