Alex Albon reacted to the speculations suggesting who could change teams after the end of the season 2024.
More than half of the drivers on the F1 grid will see their contracts expire at the end of this season. Alex Albon was considered one of them, but Williams' team principal, James Vowles, asserted that the contract he signed lasts until the end of the season in 2025.
This isn't ideal for the Thai driver, as many of the seats in the top teams will be left empty after 2024, and searching for a team in 2025 won't be as easy.
On the other hand, Lewis Hamilton showed us in recent days that contract length is one thing, but options and clauses for exits are another.
While we won't know whether something like that exists in Albon's contract, the 27-year-old has answered Sky Sports' questions concerning speculations about his potential future with Red Bull:
"Truthfully, the focus really isn't there at the moment. That's more for behind-the-scenes work. I'm focused on Williams and the positive spiral that we're on and trying to do the best job I can."
Last year, Albon raced with one of the slowest cars on the grid, yet he still placed 13th in the Drivers' Championship. Ten team principals recognized his speed and ranked him among the top 10 drivers of the 2023 season.
"Obviously, the interest comes in the performances. That's why there's a bit of a noise, just because of the season that we've had last year. I've got to keep that up and then do a bit more just to make sure that these opportunities are available."
The 2024 season is around the corner, and Williams already unveiled their FW46 (2024 challenger) on Monday. Albon suggested his team made great progress, and his focus will be on improving even more this year. He added:
"At the same time, I am focused at Williams for now, and a lot of it will be about these first few races that are on the calendar, seeing how much of a step we've made as a team."
