James Vowles dismissed all the speculations about Alex Albon's possible move to another team after the recent launch of Williams's 2024 challenger.
We are entering the 2024 season, at the end of which the majority of drivers have their contracts expiring. Alex Albon was considered to be among these drivers.
With the performances he showed driving for Williams Racing during the most recent season, he caught the eye of multiple team principals on the grid.
Seats in teams like Mercedes or Red Bull are up for grabs after the end of the 2024 season, and the Thai driver was considered as one of the main candidates.
Rumors even suggested that the 27-year-old already had a three-year deal from Red Bull on the table. However, the team principal of Williams dismissed all of the speculations in a recent interview.
The team principal of Williams Racing, James Vowles, asserted in a recent interview that Albon's contract with Williams Racing is valid until the end of the season 2025. According to PlanetF1, he said:
"Alex is signed for Williams until the end of 2025. That’s signed. It’s not something I’ve been very public about because I don’t feel the need to."
The 44-year-old also stated that all the reports we hear from various individuals are speculations and nothing more. He added:
"So, any reports you’re seeing, and there’s one in particular, that individual is speculating at best."
These words should immediately end all the speculations. On the other hand, we have seen a few drivers get out of their contracts recently. There might be some loopholes even in Albon's contract.
Another question is, if Mercedes - the team known for its close relationship with Williams- suddenly became very interested in the 27-year-old driver, could they somehow find their way around the existing contract?
After Hamilton's move to Ferrari, it seems literally everything might be possible, so we have to wait and see how this situation develops.
