Former Scuderia
Ferrari driver Gerhard Berger suggested
Lewis Hamilton's move to the red is something he has long been waiting for.
The 2025 season is still more than one year away, but we already got a huge teaser for it in the form of
Lewis Hamilton's move to the Ferrari F1 team.
The ten-time Grand Prix winner Gerhard Berger shared his opinion on the shocking announcement in an interview with Italian publication Corriere della Sera:
"I have to congratulate Ferrari. Hiring Hamilton seems to me the best decision ever. It’s a move I’ve been waiting for for a long time."
Aston Martin signed
Fernando Alonso before the start of the 2023 season and everyone from within the British team has only made positive statements about this move.
The experienced double World Champion apparently
sparked new energy within the team. Berger suggests the seven-time World Champion might do the same in Ferrari.
"Sometimes, there is a need for an energetic change within a team. I am convinced that with Lewis, new skills, new technicians, a new way of making decisions will come to Maranello, driven by a motivation that everyone in the team will feel. Something similar to what happened when Schumacher arrived at Ferrari."
The 39-year-old is the most successful figure in Formula 1's history in terms of results. He has also built an incredible fan base, which he will bring to Ferrari.
"We are talking about the most important, consistent figure in modern Formula 1 not only in terms of results but also in terms of his following among fans."
The combination of Hamilton's and Ferrari's brands has immense potential. This was already shown when
the value of the company shot up by about four billion dollars right after the announcement of the signing of the Mercedes driver. Berger added:
"Lewis is a reference for a huge community that also includes people not entirely interested in racing. This puts him in a position unlike any other. If we combine this with the Ferrari brand, it means generating real power in financial terms as well."
