Aston Martin Formula 1 team just unveiled their 2024 challenger during the season launch nine days ahead of pre-season testing in Bahrain.
Over the course of the last ten days, we have seen car launches of five teams. We have seen
Haas's new car, then
Williams with
Sauber/Stake, then
Alpine, and most recently,
RB.
What is interesting is that only teams that finished in the top five last year now remain. With Aston Martin unveiling their car today, we are waiting for
Ferrari on the 13th,
Mercedes and
McLaren on the 14th, and lastly,
Red Bull on the 15th of February.
Aston Martin managed to surprise everyone with their progress over the winter last season, and if the team makes a similar step forward this year, they could be a serious title contender.
The British team started 2023 ahead of teams like Mercedes, McLaren, and Ferrari but then found themselves in what
the team principal Mike Krack described as a "much harsher development race."Consequently, Aston Martin fell from second place in the Championship three positions back to fifth. This year, the team's goal will again be to start ahead of these three teams ideally but then maintain that position.
However, Stoffel Vandoorne (Aston Martin's test driver)
hinted his team will most likely not compete directly with Red Bull Racing, which is expected to start ahead of everyone.
After ending the last season in fifth place, the British team enters the 2023 season as an underdog when it comes to the battle for the Championship, but Krack is determined to change that.
Could Aston Martin repeat its success and confirm that winter development is its strength? Or will the team fail to match the progress of others? We will find out during the first race in Bahrain, which takes place in less than 20 days!
