Former
AlphaTauri team principal
Franz Tost suggested he could not imagine his future as a pundit for F1 because people would not be able to take his opinions.
Leaving F1 is quite tough for many drivers and team principals, and it happens quite often that they return in the form of television experts giving their professional opinions on various issues.
Some of the most popular ones you might know include
Nico Rosberg,
Ralf Schumacher, Jacques Villeneuve, Martin Brundle, Eddie Jordan, and Jolyon Palmer.
Retiring AlphaTauri team principal Franz Tost was asked by
F1 Insider whether he could imagine himself in the role of television expert, and he replied:
"That's definitely not my thing. I would have to give too many political answers. That is not my strength. And many people couldn't live with the truth."
Sky Sports commentator David Croft recently revealed he had a discussion with Tost during the last race weekend of the season
where he said every driver in F1 deserves their seat, except two.
It wasn't revealed which two drivers he had in mind. However, the former team principal apparently has his own strong opinions which he would rather not share with the world. He added:
"Ralf Schumacher, who does this very well, speaks too clearly for most people. I would be even more extreme."
Throughout his long career in the position of team principal, Tost worked with many talented young drivers that we even see on the F1 grid today.
Having worked with so many drivers, Tost might have a unique perspective to offer, and it is certainly a shame he would not want to share his opinions in the role of TV expert.
On the other hand, the former AlphaTauri team principal did not completely walk away from the sport and is currently in talks with Red Bull about future collaborations, so we might see him on the grid again.
