AlphaTauri's technical director, Jody Egginton, set the goal of his team to achieve something similar to what they did in seasons 2020-2021.
AlphaTauri went through one of its most challenging seasons, as the team seemed to be in last place. However, the Italian team managed to recover and regain two positions in the last few races.
In the end, AlphaTauri finished eighth in the Championship. What is interesting is that the team collected fewer points compared to the previous season but improved by one position.
Nevertheless, it isn't any team's goal to compete at the back of the grid. AlphaTauri's technical director, Jody Egginton, outlined his team's targets for season 2024. He told
motorsport.com:
"We want to keep on this trajectory of progress we've been on in the second half of the year."
Egginton said he would like his team to perform like they had in two seasons before the change in regulations. During this season, they competed for the points regularly and even won one race.
"The target is to achieve something similar to what we did in 2020 to 2021. We've been there before, we've done it, and we just need a solid winter and to hit the ground running."
If an F1 team starts the 2021 season ahead of its rivals, it gives the team room to breathe and not to make rushed decisions in order to catch up. That is what the technical director is looking for.
"Then our season can be a little bit... not easy, it's never easy, but a bit more progressive. And we can develop the car in a slightly more structured way."
Even though AlphaTauri finished only eight in the Championship, their pace on some circuits at the end of the season was matching the sixth team in the Championship -
Alpine.
Finishing so far back gives the Italian team a bigger wind tunnel allocation, which will be their advantage moving forward. Could we see them at the top of the midfield in 2024?
