Former F1 driver Timo Glock discussed the big question about the future of
Sergio Perez in the
Red Bull Racing F1 team.
The rumors about whether Sergio Perez will stay with Red Bull in 2024 seem to have been
finally silenced by himself and his team bosses,
Christian Horner and
Helmut Marko.
However, the question remains if Perez can perform at the pace required to secure the Championship. Former F1 driver Timo Glock told
PlanetF1:
"You can only rely on the comments from Red Bull and what Christian Horner and Dr. Marko say. Every time, they confirm he will be in the car next year. I’m pretty sure it’s going to happen."
We of course, hope Perez can find his form as he seemed to recover during the
2023 Sao Paulo Grand Prix. But what would Red Bull do if the Mexican driver couldn't deliver the performances they want from him?
"The big question is what’s going to happen in the middle of the year, if he’s not performing, or after a couple of weekends next year? If then, he may get replaced by Daniel Ricciardo or whoever."
Sergio Perez has a huge fan base in Mexico City as we could see during the
2023 Mexico City Grand Prix out of which he unfortunately had to retire.
"There is marketing as well what Red Bull has with Checo – you could see in Mexico he’s just massive and big and that market is very important, for sure, for Red Bull as well. Very important."
Glock thinks Red Bull will definitely keep Checo for the second seat in 2024 but suggests we could see a driver change in the middle of the season if he fails to perform.
"So I think they will keep them in the car for a certain amount of races next year. Then, if he’s not performing, then they might take some action."
