Red Bull Racing F1 driver
Sergio Perez gave a clear update on his contract with the team for the season 2024.
The second seat in Red Bull has been surrounded by rumors recently. Current second driver Sergio Perez has struggled in the previous three races when he had to retire after a mistake in the
Japanese Grand Prix and received multiple track limit penalties in the
Qatar Grand Prix.
After
Christian Horner lately clarified, Red Bull has not "
discussed or even contemplated" exchanging Perez for a different driver next year if he fails to achieve second place in the Drivers' Championship.
During interviews before the 2023
United States Grand Prix, Perez dismissed all the rumors by saying he has no reason not to fulfill his next year's contract with the team.
"I have a contract for next year. I have no reason not to fulfill that contract. I'm going to give my very best to it."
The Mexican driver made it clear he does not intend for his next season to be the last season of his career. He would like to stay with Red Bull, but as he says, "it has to work out both ways."
"I've made a commitment. But more than that, it will not be my final contract in F1. I'm with Red Bull, and I want to stay with Red Bull, and obviously, it has to work out for both sides."
After being asked how sure he was he would still be in Red Bull next year, the 33-year-old replied: "100 percent." Checo hinted he does not plan to stop racing any time soon.
"I'm just enjoying it at the moment. I love the challenge of getting back out of it [his struggles], and at 33, I think I have some good years ahead of me. As an athlete, you want to maximize your career. That, to me, is important, and that's my focus."
