Red Bull team principal
Christian Horner clarified there is "no plan of any retirement" for the Red Bull second driver
Sergio Perez.
Sergio Perez named the Mexico City Grand Prix his most important race ahead of this weekend. Red Bull driver will be looking to score at least a podium in front of his home crowd.
Lewis Hamilton recently mentioned he expects the home crowd to boost the performances of Sergio Perez. Asked if a win in Mexico would be a memorable boost for Checo, Red Bull team principal Christian Horner replied:
"Absolutely. He had a good race in Austin last weekend and hopefully he can bring that form into this weekend. He started well in [FP1], he’s got a lot of home support here, so let’s hope he can use that crowd energy."
The seven-time World Champion also recently mentioned there is not enough support for the Mexican driver inside his team. Checo's performances have been tumbling with increasing pressure on achieving P2 in the Championship.
"First of all, there’s absolutely no plan of any retirement! It’s very nice that Lewis has so much care and attention [for Perez] when he was questioning the validity of Max’s team mate only a few weeks ago."
Horner pointed to the fact that there will always be some new rumor surrounding Formula One, saying: "But look, there’s always rumours that are circulating in this paddock, especially when there’s very little to write about."
Horner made sure to emphasize the great relationship between Perez and his team. As mentioned in the past, Checo has the full support of the team to finish in second place in the Drivers' Championship.
"Sergio] has a great relationship with the team, a strong relationship with his team mate, and we want to see him finish second in the championship, which is something we’ve never achieved before – to have a one-two."
