Kevin Magnussen just finished the second most unsuccessful season in his career, mainly due to an uncompetitive car, but he refused to blame it on his team.
Kevin Magnussen finished 19th in the Drivers' Championship after the 2023 season, as he was only able to collect three points for his team during the 22-race-long season.
The Haas F1 team finished last in the Constructors' Championship. As opposed to its rivals like AlphaTauri, the American team failed to introduce effective upgrades to their car and struggled with performance more and more towards the end of the season.
Magnussen could stand back and criticize his team for not giving him a competitive car. However, in a recent interview with motorsportweek.com, he explained it was equally his fault.
"I don’t think it helps the team to sell them cheap to you guys. I think it’s a team sport. We’re all involved."
Magnussen's teammate Nico Hulkenberg has been more critical of his team, mainly after the Mexico City Grand Prix, when he said he hoped the results would be "a wake-up call for everybody back at the factory." Magnussen continued:
"We’re all responsible, and I don’t want to stand here like some holy cow, I’m a part of this problem if you want I guess, as is every team member in Haas. And we need to stick together and come back like we have done in the past"
The Dane recently said he saw potential in the Haas car, but he and his team didn't seem to know how to unlock it properly. However, that gave him hope going into the 2024 season. He added:
"This team has shown great potential for a long time, and it’s about time we hit our marks on a consistent basis because I think the talent and the potential in this team is very big. So I want to be there to push it forward and show what we can do."
