Frederic Vasseur stated his team recently reopened the case in relation to the Las Vegas Grand Prix incident that cost Ferrari potentially more than a million dollars.
It might have been forgotten by the end of the season, but the Ferrari team suffered big damage during the Las Vegas Grand not only strategically, but financially as well.
Carlos Sainz suffered significant damage to his car after going over a loose manhole cover, and his power unit, along with some other parts of the car, had to be changed.
As dictated by the rules, Sainz had to receive a ten-place grid penalty even though it was his or his team's fault. Stewards even revealed a few weeks later that they did what they could not to give Sainz the penalty.
At the end of the season, Ferrari lost the second place in the Championship by 3 points, which could have easily been collected by Sainz during the Las Vegas Grand Prix had he not received the penalty.
Moreover, damages to his car were said to have exceeded a million dollars, which his team had to spend out of their budget, even though the incident was the promoter's fault.
Asked whether Ferrari has some new answers in relation to who will pay for the damage they suffered during the race at Las Vegas Strip Circuit, Vasseur told the media according to GPfans:
"No, no. You know that, when you open the discussion with the insurance, it’s ages! It’s true everywhere, including in F1."
Scuderia's team principal added his team reopened the case a few days before. While he didn't expect it to be a short process, Vasseur also said it would only be fair if somebody covered the damage for his team.
"We will have the time to have the discussion, we reopened the case yesterday or the day before. But it would be fair!"
