Christian Horner commented on the photo of him with Toto Wolff, which became popular after the final race of the 2023 season.

Red Bull Racing F1 team principal Christian Horner is known for huge rivalry with Mercedes team principal Toto Wolff, mainly after the 2021 season.

The 2021 season brought many tense situations between the two team principals as their drivers and teams were in close battle for both Championships.

However, since 2021, things have calmed down a bit, and besides a small jibe here and there, Horner and Wolff seem to have no problem with each other.

What surprised many people was the photo they took after the last race of the season - the 2023 Abu Dhabi Grand Prix- where they looked like lifelong close friends having a laugh together. Red Bull team principal gave insight into how this photo came to life. He told Sky Sports:

"It’s an amusing moment because I think my wife had just smacked his bum so hard that I think it took him a bit by surprise. You probably can’t see my clenched fist that is out of shot there."

Mercedes and Red Bull were not in direct competition during the 2023 season, as the team from Milton Keynes completely dominated, winning 21 out of 22 races.

The Brit explained that rivalry is and will always be there between two principals of the best teams on the F1 grid, but there also has to be respect.

"It’s been a long season and there has to be competition on track, but there still has to be respect."

The Mercedes team principal dominated the sport for seven years straight, and Horner said he admires what he has done.

"I respect everything he has done and achieved in the sport. We’re very different as people and leaders, but that doesn’t mean there’s no respect there. I would say we have a professional relationship."
