Red Bull Racing Formula One driver Max Verstappen reacted to the enormous entrance fee he has to pay to be able to compete in the 2024 Championship.
The triple World Champion Max Verstappen will have to pay a record-breaking highest-ever fee for his Super Licence in 2024. Here is an explanation of why:
Each driver has to own a Super License to be allowed to race in Formula One. In order to get this license, drivers must meet certain conditions every year and pay a determined sum of money.
This sum gets calculated based on the base amount, which is the same for every driver - €10,400 ($11,420) for the 2024 season, and a variable cost dependent on the number of points accumulated by the driver.
For each point amassed in the previous season (2023 in this case), each driver has to pay an additional €2,100 ($2,306). So the better drivers score in the Championship, the more they will have to pay.
As the driver with the most points in a single season ever in Formula One history (575), Max Verstappen will have to pay whooping whooping €1,217,900 ($1,337,382) in total.
The Dutchman revealed it won't actually be him who will pay the money. He told Viaplay it will actually be his team, Red Bull Racing, that will have to cover the bill.
"The team pays that. Fortunately, I do think there should be some normal ratio in that."
The 26-year-old also noted the rule makers probably didn't expect one driver to win 19 out of 22 races and score more points than the second and third-best drivers together.
"But you know, things like that get written down, and I don't think anybody expected that there would end up being that many points scored."
On the other hand, Red Bull will probably be more than happy to pay the price for one of the most dominant seasons in Formula One history that can be largely attributed to the Dutchman's effort.
