In a recent episode of his podcast, Eddie Jordan suggested Lewis Hamilton is the driver that needs a good result going into the third race of the season.

Eddie Jordan and David Coulthard discussed on the recent episode of their Formula for Success podcast (which we strongly recommend) which driver needs to show a good result in Australia.

The Australian Grand Prix will be the third race of the 2024 season and will take place two weeks after the 2024 Saudi Arabian Grand Prix, in which Lewis Hamilton finished ninth.

George Russell has so far outperformed the seven-time World Champion in both of the first two qualifying sessions and races of the season. Eddie Jordan suggests the 39-year-old needs a good results now:

"Lewis… God, he needs a result really badly. The reason why is because George is outshining him, just like what happened this time last year."

The former F1 team owner acknowledged a similar pattern during the previous season, at the end of which Hamilton beat Russell in the race head-to-head score. He continued

"Sure, Lewis got himself together halfway through and then went on to have a very strong second half of the season. But the championship is not two halves."

The seven-time World Champion finished second during the race at Albert Park Circuit last year, but Mercedes seemed to have a more competitive car then.

This year, Red Bull is still clearly ahead, Ferrari seems to be the second fastest, and Mercedes looks to be on par with Aston Martin and McLaren. It will be challenging for Hamilton to score big in this situation, but according to Jordan, he needs a "big result." The 75-year-old added:

"It's a continuous race, there's 24 races and, in the races, ninth at the weekend. It's not good enough, he needs a big result. That's what I think."
