A detailed overview of Grand Prix, Qualification, Sprint Shootout, and Sprint Race stats revealed Lewis Hamilton has been better overall than George Russell, but not in all aspects.

Mercedes drivers have been one of the most equally matched teammates on the grid in 2023, especially regarding qualifying performances. The head-to-head battle between the drivers ended in a draw - 11:11.

Lewis Hamilton seemed to have an edge in race pace over his 26-year-old teammate as he turned the draw in qualifying to a 15:7 score in Grand Prix results.

The better race pace also resulted in the seven-time World Champion in more podiums, more points in the Championship, better Championship position, and superior best finishes.

On the other hand, the score could have been a bit different had Russell not made a few mistakes that cost him potentially two podium finishes.

The mistakes meant more retirements for the 26-year-old and also fewer point finishes. On the other hand, Russell has been overall better on sprint weekends.

Even though Hamilton achieved one sprint race podium and Russell didn't, both Sprint Shoutout and Sprint Race head-to-heads go in favor of the number 63 driver.

All in all, the seven-time World Champion had an edge over his teammate in 2023 as opposed to 2022, which was a more successful year for Russell.

The close match in qualifying and race pace resulted in frequent on-track battles between the two drivers, and despite one accident, Russell stated the two Mercedes drivers trust one another.

Mercedes team principal Toto Wolff said he has the strongest driver pairing on the F1 grid, and the only thing they are missing at the moment is the competitive car. Would you agree?
