Scuderia
Ferrari team principal
Frederic Vasseur gave a media update on the negotiation talks with his drivers
Charles Leclerc and
Carlos Sainz.
Both Ferrari F1 drivers, Charles Leclerc and Carlos Sainz, have contracts that
expire at the end of the 2024 season, which is less than a year from now.
One driver that also has his contract expiring at the end of the season 2024 is
Sergio Perez in the hottest seat in F1 at the moment, in
Red Bull Racing.
Both Ferrari drivers have proven themselves throughout the season 2024, whether it was Leclerc's incredible qualifying sessions or Sainz's victory in Singapore.
The Italian team, therefore, had to start negotiation talks with its drivers straight after the season to prevent other teams possibly interested in each of their drivers from snatching them.
Some reports suggested the Monegasque might have already signed his contract. However, the Ferrari team principal clarified the team is "not in a rush." He told Sky Italy:
"We are not in a rush to extend the deals but have started discussions. Mercedes did it in August. We are not in a rush at all."
The team principal admitted he was planning to have both contracts solved by the end of the year but suggested it might take longer.
"This season, I was expecting to do it before the end of the year. But the season was a huge one, and we have started the discussion. But, again, we are not in a rush."
Red Bull's team principal,
Christian Horner, recently stated Ferrari would be crazy not to sign Leclerc. What do you think? Would you like to see the current Ferrari duo with the team after 2024?
