Ferrari's team principal confirmed his team is about to make a quite significant change in the car as he mentioned 95 percent of the components will change.
Ferrari's chassis technical director, Enrico Cardile, recently gave an in-depth explanation of his team's progress in the development of SF23 and SF24 (2023 and 2024 Ferrari cars).
While the SF23 was largely based on the concept of the car from 2022, he stated the SF24 would be moving away from that concept as the team plans to turn the page with next year's car. Frederic Vasseur confirmed the big changes as he told the media:
"I don’t know if revolution is the right word. We have the same regulations now three years in a row that you can't change massively. It’s a matter of tenths of a second."
It seems both Red Bull's biggest rivals plan to make massive changes to their cars next year. The Mercedes team principal warned that almost every component of their 2024 car will be changed. Vasseur continued:
"For sure, we have to do a step on that, we don’t underestimate the step. We are changing 95 percent of the components, perhaps you can consider that it's a revolution, I don't know if it will be."
The 55-year-old mentioned that no step forward in Formula One is good enough if your rival makes a bigger one, and therefore, he avoids setting high expectations.
"The expectation is that we are focused on ourselves, we are doing a good step forward. But in the end, it's always a matter of comparison, you can improve by 100 steps but if the others are improving by 120 you will look stupid."
The Ferrari's team principal also revealed his two F1 drivers, Charles Leclerc and Carlos Sainz, have been heavily involved in the development of the next year's car and are 'pleased' with the progress. He added:
"They had a lot of involvement into the development of the car from the beginning. They are quite pleased with the situation."
Sainz mentioned not too long ago he believes challenging Red Bull for the title in 2024 is realistic. What do you think? Could Ferrari bring the battle to Red Bull in 2024?
