Mercedes team principal Toto Wolff suggested his team will be changing "almost every component" on their car following the 2023 season.
Finishing second in the Constructor's Championship would be an amazing result for almost every single team on the F1 grid in 2023, but not for Mercedes.
Being used to competing for and winning titles, the last two years have been difficult for everybody who is part of the German team, but mainly Lewis Hamilton and Toto Wolff.
The seven-time World Champion has complained about his Mercedes car multiple times throughout the season, and his team principal, Toto Wolff, recently said he believes they can achieve the title, but they need to give the 38-year-old a better car.
Following the race in Abu Dhabi, the team principal hinted his team would "go back to the drawing board" concerning the build of next season's car. As quoted by motorsport.com, Wolff also added recently:
"We are changing the concept. We are completely moving away from how we laid out the chassis, the weight distribution, the airflow."
While multiple teams started copying the concept of the fastest car on the grid - Red Bull, Mercedes probably realized it is hard to defeat somebody by copying them, and therefore, Wolff suggests a complete change in direction.
"I mean, literally, there's almost every component that's being changed because only by doing that, I think we have a chance."
It is already exciting, and we can't wait for Mercedes to unveil their new car for the 2024 season to see what the German team can come up with. However, the team principal also warns that every single outcome, from terrible to amazing, is possible.
"We could get it wrong also. So, between not gaining what we expect, catching up and making a big step and competing in the front, everything is possible."
