Mercedes F1 driver Lewis Hamilton commented on Qualifying session performance following a Q2 knockout in the 2023 Abu Dhabi Grand Prix.

After the FP2 session, Lewis Hamilton told the media his car did not feel bad, but he anticipated a difficult Qualification following his recent qualifying struggles.

The seven-time World Champion hoped for some more practice in FP3, which he got after doing 26 laps at Yas Marina Circuit. However, it was not enough for a better qualifying result.

For a while, it seemed like the Mercedes driver would not make it out of Q1, but he aced the final sector of his last Q1 lap and made it into Q2 in ninth place.

On the other hand, Hamilton was not able to improve too much on his best lap time from Q1 and just missed out on Q3, as his Q2 time was only enough for P11.

The 38-year-old seemed disappointed and a bit confused with his own performance. He suspected there was something wrong with his Mercedes when he said on the team radio: "There is something not right with this car."

Hamilton did not have much to add when he was doing an interview with Sky Sports. The seven-time World Champion suggested there was something wrong with his car compared to other Mercedes:

"I don't have any answers. Honestly, at this point, it is what it is. We set our cars up the same, but they don't read the same so there is something not right on our side. I'm sure we'll deep dive into it, but all weekend I've struggled with the car."

The Mercedes driver qualified in the same position as he did for the Las Vegas Grand Prix last weekend. While his qualifying in Las Vegas was not spectacular, Hamilton showed a very good race pace and performed the most overtakes in the race.

The seven-time World Champion will hope that Abu Dhabi will be a similar case as every single point now counts in the battle with Ferrari for second place in the Constructors' Championship.
