Mercedes driver
Lewis Hamilton shortly summed up the season following the last race in Abu Dhabi at
Yas Marina Circuit.
Lewis Hamilton has had a decent season, considering he was not in the fastest car. The seven-time World Champion finished third in the drivers' Championship, right behind the two
Red Bull F1 drivers.
While there was an enormous gap between Red Bull and the rest of the field, battles from second to fifth place in the Constructors' Championship were pretty even, and Mercedes managed to come out on top.
The seven-time World Champion made a huge contribution to securing second place in the Championship for his team, with six podiums and 234 points throughout the season.
However, the last three races did not go well for Hamilton as he struggled either with race pace or with qualification from
Sao Paulo up until
Abu Dhabi.
During the most recent race last weekend - the 2023
Abu Dhabi Grand Prix, Hamilton failed to qualify inside P10 and then was
only fast enough for P9 during Sunday's race.
Asked to comment on his mood after the long 2023 season, Hamilton suggested it is tough not to finish the season on a high. According to RacingNews365, he told the media.
"Not, great. I mean, I just finished ninth, two really bad races. Red Bull won by 17 seconds and they have not touched the car since August or July."
Red Bull Racing was 21 out of 22 races of the 2023 season, performing almost a clean sweep despite not introducing any new upgrades to their car in the second part of the season, and that worries Hamilton. The 38-year-old concluded:
"So you can pretty much guess where they're going to be next year. [I'm] really happy for the team. We had great reliability and they did a great job."
