Aston Martin F1 driver Fernando Alonso found new motivation after encouraging P3 result in the 2023 Sao Paulo Grand Prix.
After several unsuccessful weekends, the Aston Martin team bounced back during the most recent race in Sao Paulo. Fernando Alonso finished in P3, and Lance Stroll finished in P5.
The Spanish driver was especially satisfied with the result as he managed to snatch the P3 after an epic battle with Sergio Perez on the faster Red Bull by 0.053 seconds in the end.
The double World Champion reflected on the previous races as he told the media: "We've been struggling for a few months, but the last two races were probably quite painful."
Aston Martin brought an upgrade to the United States, which did not work as expected, so the team had to change direction quickly.
"We had to experiment a little bit on a few things on the car to really understand the direction that we were going, and we have to go for next year's car as well, so those races were painful, especially Mexico."
The Mexico City Grand Prix was super tough for the team as both drivers had to retire from the race in the end. The team principal revealed nobody in Aston Martin was happy at that time. Alonso added:
"We were very slow as a team in terms of performance, and it was nice to see everyone in the team very focused, the determination in the team was so nice from the outside to see and to go deep in the analysis and come back stronger."
The Spanish matador now admits the bad results were starting to get to him. But ever since the success in Brazil, he can't wait for the next race in Las Vegas.
"I was a little bit concerned, no doubt, for the last few races and maybe the final part of the championship and now, I cannot wait to go to Vegas. It's a very different energy when you have a performing car."
