Mercedes team principal Toto Wolff shared an emotional farewell to Lewis Hamilton ahead of the final race together in Abu Dhabi 2024.
The 2024 season is coming to an end with the final, 24th Grand Prix weekend at Yas Marina Circuit in Abu Dhabi. This race carries special significance for Lewis Hamilton and the whole Mercedes F1 team as it concludes their 12-season-long collaboration.
After the end of 2024, the seven-time world champion will head to Ferrari. But as he previously said, he will never forget what he achieved with Silver Arrows.
As the team principal, Toto Wolff, stated, neither Mercedes will forget the incredible journey over the last 12 years with the 39-year-old British driver. Wolff said in the preview of the 2024 Abu Dhabi Grand Prix:
"After 12 incredible years, we get ready to write the final chapter in our racing story with Lewis this weekend."
"It has been quite a journey. When we first started working together in 2013, we couldn't have imagined what was to come."
"Six drivers' world championships. Eight constructors' titles. 84 wins. 78 pole positions. 153 podium finishes. The most successful driver and team partnership in F1 history."
Hamilton / Mercedes is not only the most successful driver and team partnership in F1 history, but it was also the longest one. No driver before has stayed with a single F1 team for 12 seasons. Wolff continued:
"Many highs that we have enjoyed. Some crushing lows that we've overcome together."
After the season concludes, the seven-time World Champion will go on a "farewell tour," visiting major sponsors and factories, saying his final goodbye to everyone. Although he departs the team, Wolff stated that Lewis Hamilton would remain part of their family forever.
"A celebration of everything we have achieved together. Lewis' partnership with Mercedes goes back 26 years. Every lap of his career so far has been powered by the Mercedes star."
"We will honor this unrivaled story in Abu Dhabi and the week after, when we visit Kuala Lumpur, Stuttgart and eventually Brixworth and Brackley."
"And although this phase of our relationship is coming to an end, Lewis will always be part of our family."
