McLaren Racing CEO Zak Brown shared honest thoughts on his team's biggest rival of the 2024 season, Max Verstappen.
Following the 2024 Las Vegas Grand Prix, where Red Bull Racing F1 driver Max Verstappen secured his fourth Drivers' Championship title, the Dutchman trolled the CEO of McLaren Racing live on Sky Sports as he called him out on his past comments.
Brown said earlier this season that Verstappen could only win the Championship in the fastest car, and of course, the Dutchman reminded him of his exact comment, suggesting that he now proved him wrong.
Brown then gracefully congratulated Max Verstappen as they had a good laugh. Speaking to De Telegraaf, the CEO of McLaren explained his relationship with the Dutchman:
"A little joke like that, that's part of it, isn't it? It's just a shame that people sometimes misjudge that."
"Max has a good sense of humor. A joke like that that's part of it, isn't it? It's just a shame that people sometimes misjudge that."
"I said he has now beaten my Senna-guy, and then I read back somewhere that I compared Lando Norris to Ayrton Senna."
"But I was just talking about Senna because Max has now become world champion more often."
The 53-year-old then went on to praise the four-time world champion, suggesting he is one of the best drivers to ever race in Formula 1.
"Just look at Brazil. One of the best performances I've seen in my life. I still raced against Max's father, Jos, and I think he was also fast enough to be the world champion, but he had some bad luck in his career."
In Brazil, Verstappen had to start the Grand Prix race from P17 due to an unlucky red flag in qualifying and a five-second grid penalty. Still, he made his way into the lead of the race and won by more than 19 seconds ahead of everyone. Brown added:
"I have been watching Formula 1 for more than 35 years now, and Max is one of the greatest drivers ever. He is beatable, but you really have to bring your 'A+ game.'"
"When was the last time we saw Max in the gravel trap? It is impressive how he is always on top and doesn't make mistakes."
