Former F1 driver Karun Chandhok suggested something might still be missing for
Max Verstappen before he can match the all-time greats of F1.
Max Verstappen is on an incredible run with
Red Bull at the moment.
Christian Horner revealed an interesting statistic during the Chinese Grand Prix weekend
when he explained that the Dutchman's dominance should be appreciated.
He said the triple World Champion has won
50% of races since the last
Chinese Grand Prix in 2019. Moreover, the 26-year-old broke multiple records and achieved numerous milestones with the Milton Keynes team in the last couple of seasons.
The most recent milestone was Red Bull's 100th pole position this weekend. With this pole position, Verstappen also became the first man in this century to qualify in P1 during all five of the season's first five Grand Prix races.
While many of his achievements put Verstappen alongside or above the all-time greats of the sport, Karun Chandhok suggested there is one more thing he would like to see Verstappen do. As quoted by Crash.net, he said:
"More and more, I'd like to see him drive for somebody else. I'd like to see. He's at one with that car, could someone else jump in and do it? If he went to Mercedes…"
"The all-time greats have won in more than one team. Schumacher, Fangio, Prost, Lewis."
Michael Schumacher won both with
Ferrari and Benetton, Juan Manuel Fangio won with
Alfa Romeo,
Mercedes, Ferrari, and Maserati, and Alain Prost won with
McLaren and
Williams.
Finally,
Lewis Hamilton won with McLaren as well as Mercedes, and now he will try to win with Ferrari in 2025 and 2026. Chandhok added:
"If I was him, I'd be interested to see where Ferrari will end up, rather than Mercedes. With Max in the car, and with whatever else he can bring with him."
