Recent reports suggest that triple World Champion Max Verstappen is set to meet with Mercedes leaders to discuss a potential seat in the team in 2025.
The triple World Champion was already rumored to be in talks with Toto Wolff earlier this year amid all the drama and controversy inside the Red Bull Racing F1 team.
Mercedes's team principal made it clear that he would prefer the Dutchman over anyone else, so he gave him some time to decide whether he wanted to leave the team from Milton Keynes.
There are a couple of issues with a potential move to Mercedes, but the 26-year-old seemed really unsettled by the power struggle within his team, and Wolff suggested that might be something that pushes him over the edge.
Verstappen clarified ahead of the Chinese Grand Prix that he would like to continue with Red Bull if everything stays the same, and he can just focus on racing.
However, recent talks about the potential departure of chief technical officer Adrian Newey suggest that the situation is only getting worse.
Reacting to all of this, Verstappen, his father, and his manager are, according to F1 Insider, set to meet with Mercedes's leaders during the race weekend in Miami.
Miami Grand Prix could be the last race where Christian Horner "can be sure of keeping his Dutch superstar Max Verstappen (26) in the team until the end of 2028."
"According to F1-Insider.com, Mercedes F1 team shareholders Toto Wolff, corporate CEO Ola Källenius, and Sir James Ratcliffe (Ineos) intend to meet with the Verstappen clan."
The Dutchman might be easier to persuade if Mercedes had a more competitive car. Reasonably enough, he apparently wants a guarantee that the pace of the German team's car will improve before he arrives.
"[Verstappen] wants a guarantee that the Silver Arrow will be better in 2025 than this season. That's why he wishes for Mercedes to not only secure his services but also to bring over key technicians from Red Bull."
