Dutch former Formula One driver Giedo van der Garde recently commented on the dominance of Red Bull's Max Verstappen.
Max Verstappen is currently the only Dutch driver in Formula One. Nyck De Vries was there at the beginning of 2023 but was replaced by Daniel Ricciardo for insufficient performances.
While people in the Netherlands have only one driver in F1, Verstappen is accumulating enough success for at least three different drivers.
In 2023, he not only won his third Championship, he also won 19 out of 22 races, and he broke records for most wins in a season, most consecutive wins in a season, most wins from a pole, and a lot more.
Netherlands had quite a few F1 drivers in its history (17), but Verstappen became the first one to score more than 20 points in a career. To put things in perspective, he is currently at 2586.5 and not stopping.
The Dutchman really made his nation go wild for F1 as he achieved immense success over the past three years. Giedo van der Garde told RacingNews365:
"I think it is very special what we are experiencing now in the Netherlands. If you have someone who can win 19 races in a season, and ten in a row, that's unprecedented."
Van der Garde revealed it has become kind of normal for people in the Netherlands all of a sudden as they got used to the 26-year-old's success, but he suggests it definitely isn't normal.
"For television shows and people it becomes: 'oh, Max won again.' Then it must all be normal, but guys, what we are experiencing now in the Netherlands is really unprecedented."
Verstappen is on a great trajectory to beat even more insane records, like for most consecutive point finishes and for most consecutive Championship wins. Former F1 driver added:
"When he now wins 19 races and gets the third championship, it's not normal and inhuman."
