Esteban Ocon shared it is tough for him to watch his old teammate,
Max Verstappen, win races while he struggles in the midfield.
Ever since the beginning of his Formula One career, Esteban Ocon raced basically only for two teams. He was part of Force India, and then he joined Renault which was later rebranded to
Alpine, but is the same team.
Throughout his six full seasons in F1, the 27-year-old wasn't lucky enough to sit in a championship-contending car, so he has only one career win and three podium finishes in 133 race starts.
The Frenchman can only watch some of his old teammates and rivals like Max Verstappen and
Charles Leclerc competing for the Championship, and race wins at the top of the grid. He told the
RacingNews365.
"It is a pain, for sure. But I'm working still as if we are going for wins and podiums after every weekend. You have to re-adjust your target and my target is to get the best out of the car every race weekend."
Ocon's Alpine team just had an unsuccessful season as the team fell in the Contrsuctors' Championship two positions compared to the previous year.
On the other hand, the 27-year-old was staying positive as he also recently said his team
just needs to keep working hard, and the good results will show themselves.
"I believe if I work hard and do well on the track then my time will come. One day I will have a car that I can compete in for championships and wins. I'm looking forward to that."
Ocon has been competing with Leclerc and Verstappen since a young age. He even beat the Dutchman in a direct battle in the Formula 3 Championship. He added:
"I've been growing up with these guys who are leading all the time; Charles and Max. I know what I'm capable of."
